Whare (noun) – house, building, residence, dwelling, shed, hut, habitation, people in a house.
“Whare” was created in 2004 in the imaginings of Adele Courtman. It occured to her that New Zealanders had great and unique flair and passion for their Whare. All the shops had French or Italian or other borrowed names, how about a beautiful name that was our very own? Two years and a bottle of Veuve Cliquot later (thank you France) the first store was born in Cashmere, Christchurch. The second store followed two years later in the city centre. We are very happy to now launch the online shop. It is small today but will grow in accordance with our commitment to bring exciting and well-made, gorgeous merchandise to the attention of the world.
